There’s a very old Christmas carol that I love. I learned it as a child but rarely hear as an adult.
The holly and the ivy
When they are both full grown
Of all the trees that are in the wood
The holly bears the crown
Growing up where I did most of the holly I saw was artificial and, to be frank, not all that appealing. But ever since moving to Oregon, I’ve been noticing the holly everywhere. And now the berries and foliage brighten the rainy, foggy landscape.
