I love an epiphany. I’m mad for a grand gesture or sweeping change.
I became a vegetarian in a moment. I’ve changed jobs and schools with little hemming and hawing. When a romance is done, I don’t linger.
But, much as it pains me to admit it, not all change and evolution happens with a flourish. Good health, solid finances, and strong relationships aren’t built on the Kodak moments or the extraordinary efforts. Instead, they are built day by day, through an endless stream of small, seemingly inconsequential, decisions. It’s only after the passage of time that one can see how the pattern comes together – or doesn’t.
There are changes I need to make in my life and I’ve been waiting for the flash of inspiration to light my fire. That spark has not been forthcoming. And so, I’ve once again taking a lesson from Nature. A study in the tiny buds that make up large flowering trees and shrubs is a good reminder to stitch together one moment after another, that one bad moment will not ruin the whole, and that there is beauty all along the way, not just in the final product.
