During the past week, I’ve stumbled across a rather old-fashioned word: ardent. It was used in a variety of different contexts and each time I thought, really?
Ardent has many meanings. It can mean enthusiastic or passionate. Zealous or eager. But it has an underlying, enduring quality. To be ardent implies devotion that is deeper than a mere passing interest.
I wondered… do I feel ardent about anything? I don’t think so. I’m interested in things, and I love many people but ardent?
Then, I was scrolling through the photos on my phone, looking for a particular image. And what leapt out at me were image after image of startling color and small details that made me stop in my tracks. I don’t know if you can call it devotion, but I love color and texture, especially as they fleetingly appear in nature. I am so very grateful to live in a time that I can capture these images, holding my breath to make the moment last a little longer.
These images are all from a butterfly garden in Roatan, Honduras. I took all the images with a Nikon DSLR.
