I’m behind on updating this blog. It’s not because I haven’t been writing, but because the finishing of that writing has taken back seat to getting out into the world with people I adore.
And that’s a tradeoff I’m willing to make.
So what have I been up to the last few weeks?
First there was a brief sojourn to Sweet Creek Falls with family

Along Sweet Creek

Upper Sweet Creek Falls
Then, a friend and I headed to Bend (Central Oregon)…
…And proceeded to geek out on the food, the geography, and everything else about the place.

Lava Butte, a 5,000+ foot volcanic cinder cone. Yes, those are full grown trees in its crater. And see those clouds? A few minutes later it was snowing on us.

Lava from the aforementioned cinder cone altered the course of the Deschutes River and still can be seen in walls of black rock.

Every bend of the Deschutes River is more gorgeous than the last.

See what I mean?

Not to be outdone, just north of Bend, the Crooked River has carved a 300 foot gorge into the rock. The scale of this is startling.

It’s not a great photo, but when you can frame a butte with a railroad bridge, by God you have to try.
You guys! The irises are in bloom
If I wasn’t so darned busy, you’d get a whole post just about these. But here’s a taste.

And then we visit the poetically-named Trail of Ten Falls
I didn’t see all ten (yet) but a strong effort was made. Silver Creek State Park is bomb, as the kids would say.

Winter Falls

Lower South Falls (one of many you can walk behind)

The spectacular South Falls. (The picture doesn’t begin to do it justice)

North Falls

Middle Falls (our favorite). It’s hard to get a sense of the scale except to look up top and realize that what look like spindly trees are actually ginormous old growth pine.

Walking behind Middle Falls.

Lower North Falls. Hard to photograph, but very charming.

Double Falls
Today, we head back up to Mt. St. Helens, and then later this week I’m taking my first trip to Hawaii. Keep an eye on Instagram for more!
And I thought Colorado was breath-taking!
Well, to be fair, Colorado IS very beautiful too. Glad you liked the photos!
Fantastic photos!
I always “geek out” on food.
I’m just waiting for you and Kim to settle down somewhere so I can visit and eat all the gorgeous food you’re sure to make.
Thanks for the breath taking tour!! Get the guest room ready🙂
Always!
Very nice! Thanks for sharing
Thanks Kevin!
