On Saturday, I had the opportunity to visit a demonstration garden just outside of Salem, Oregon.
The irises were in full bloom, with names almost as colorful as their petals. Juke Box Hero. Petticoat Shuffle. Squid Squirt.
Along with the irises were roses, columbine, peonies, foxglove and more. If you don’t like looking at pictures of flowers, this is probably a good time to read something else.
I’ll admit to a few pangs of envy as I walked through this luscious explosion of color, scent and texture. Then again, my little garden is waking up from a long cold winter too. It might not be this showy, but it will bring its own joy for next several months.
If you ever find yourself in northwest Oregon in May, get yourself over to Schreiner’s Iris Garden. You won’t be disappointed.
